I saw a band play--Washington, DC

I watch from an audience of hundreds of raving fans and admirers
Musicians on stage take pose
Guitarist riffs his instrument while the bassist plays a funky tempo
Drummer keeps time
The singer grasps the microphone stand; trendy rock-pop look
Singer sings catchy lyrics with a voice that is amazingly backed by the perfectly composed band
Lyrics contain a fun tone describing a good time spent with buddies, lost loves,
       drinking vodka with a beer chaser, and having lots of sex
I think to myself "fabulous performers" as I walk away early
The bar crowd loves them...
however;
      I think ...
Sing me a song slightly out of tune
Scream me some lyrics with horrifying melodic reality
Rip at your instruments with painful emotion
Wear the clothes you wore to the movies last night and worked in, this morning
The drummer occasionally loses time
Lyrics contain a devastating tone of lonely times spent with pals, destructive loves,
     your best pal who overdosed on heroin, and how sometimes
     sex is superficial and unworthy
Twisted face of agonizing memories
The people who were supposed to love and protect you but rather abandoned you
Release some pain in your music
Have a defensive look in your tired eyes
Talk of real life, not some idealistic society that doesn't exist
